Rose Burchfield has been with EIS in the Department of Chemistry as a technician since 2001. She has an AAS in Electronics from IvyTech. She mastered prototype construction, surface mount soldering, and cable making. She also repairs a wide range of instruments. She teaches technical skills to everyone, students in particular. She is here to answer any questions you may have.

Manager, Psychological and Brain Sciences

Jesse Goode has dual roles for the Psychological and Brain Sciences building including performing duties as a facilities manager and shop manager of the Mechanical and Electronics facilities. Jesse started part-time in 2010 and became a full-time research machinist in 2012. In 2020, he took the additional role of facilities manager. As an IU graduate from the Psychological and Brain Science department in 2005, he has a diverse set of advanced skills to build instrumentation used in experiments for the department. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of machining, fabrication, and repairing equipment along with specialties in rough/finish carpentry, sewing, and lab organization.

Nick Hargus has been with EIS in the Department of Chemistry as an engineer since 2022. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Valparaiso University. He takes particular interest in microcontrollers, FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array), and PCB design. While at IU, his work has dealt with developing instrument interfaces, including circuit and board design, firmware, and user interfaces. He can help you with your instrumentation questions.

Sylvie Hudan has been in EIS in the Department of Chemistry as manager since 2014. She has a BS in Instrumentation Engineering from ISMRa (France), an MS and a PhD in Nuclear Physics from Université of Caen (France). She joined the Nuclear Chemistry group at Indiana University in 2002 shortly after her PhD. Her background with detection techniques, data acquisition, and data analysis are applied to a broad range of projects. As a scientist, she also brings organizational and project management skills.

Russell Jacobs has been with EIS since 2025 as an Electronics Engineer. He earned a B.S. and M.S.E in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University. Russell offers expertise in Analog & Digital Circuits, PCB Design, and Microcontroller solutions. He brings industry experience in mitigation strategies for component obsolescence, risk management, and feasibility analysis. His personal interests include RF Systems, Digital Signal Processing, and Reverse Engineering. He is here to help you with your unique requirements.

Charles Maitha has been an Electronics Engineer in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences since 2018. He has deep expertise in designing, developing, and validating electronic systems across both research and applied engineering environments. A Purdue University graduate, he brings advanced strengths in hardware design, embedded systems, and signal processing with a focus on delivering reliable and efficient engineering solutions. Prior to IU, Charles worked in the Automotive Industry as a Software and Embedded System Engineer.

Michael Pauly has worked in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences since 2024 as an electronics engineer. He holds a BS in computer engineering from Purdue and a BA in philosophy from Hanover College. Michael is passionate about embedded system design, edge computing, and artificial intelligence. He specializes in designing and implementing intelligent, real-time embedded systems for research applications. Michael can help with embedded systems design, embedded AI, and hardware/software integration.

Morgan Sukalo recently joined EIS in the Department of Chemistry as an engineer in the Sping of 2026. She has a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, and is interested in analog signal processing, sensors/actuators, closed loop systems and PCB design. She also enjoys a good troubleshooting session!
